Pinterest Finds
http://www.iheartfaces.com/2012/04/photo-editing-mistakes-and-fixes/
This website talks about common editing mistakes that designers apply to pictures. It teaches how to avoid making skin look "plastic", and how to remove natural face or body marks. This was very useful, especially because many designers tend to overuse their skills and make pictures look over-worked.

This website is used to educate students on the basics of Web 2.0 tools and how to use them to enhance their web design tools. It starts with the basics like "what is web 2.0" and advances to programs across the web, useful for beginners to web experts. This is very useful for people that are not too familiar with Web 2.0 yet.

This website was very interesting. It uses an interactive pyramid to categorize Web 2.0 skills into Bloom's Taxonomy of Higher Order Thinking. The higher you go on the pyramid, the more creative the programs are. This is used to engage students and encourage them to challenge their creative thinking skills.

Big Huge Labs Pictures
It was very fun to use bighugelabs.com and to apply fun effects to my pictures! My favorite is the painting effect (pictured below). There were so many different options to choose from.

QR Codes
Today was my first day using QR codes and it was very interesting! I have never used them before but can definitely see myself using them in the future. I think it would be amazing if QR codes could be used to online shop. I also think schools should start using them to advertise for events and as a way to keep information available to students.

How We Found the Giant Squid
Edith Widder has been researching the giant squid for years. The various machinery used to explore the deep sea, however, has been produced to be extremely loud. This ultimately scares the deep sea predators and results in the researches never getting the chance to see an image of the animal. To solve this problem, Widder developed a machine that produces nearly no sound. When this machinery was put into action in the deep sea, she could not believe her eyes. A giant squid swam up right to the camera, giving a first glimpse of an animal that had escaped the camera for decades. The squid was the height of a two story building.
This video was interesting to me because of the mystery of the deep sea. Because of this new silent technology, many more species of deep sea animals will be able to be found and video recorded. Nearly 95% of the ocean has not been explored by humans, and this technology will provide a way for new discoveries to be made. Who knows if even bigger animals are out there?
Tania Luna: How a penny made me feel like a millionaire
As a young child, Tania Luna and her family left Ukraine to take refuge in the United States. They stayed in a New York homeless shelter, but because of their language barrier, they believed it was a hotel. One night, Tania finds a rusted penny on the floor of her family's room. She thinks this money was dropped by a king: why else would someone waste money? She feels rich while holding this penny, even though she has so little. Years later, Tania meets her husband, Brian. Brian was also homeless as a child, struggling to survive with rotten food on a day to day basis. He did, however, have a shoe box that held is favorite possessions. As a married couple, Tania and Brian adopted a dog that had grown up in a homeless shelter as well. While watching their dog Scarlet roll around in the grass in a nearby park, Tania and Brian remember their pasts, but also reflect on the little joys brought to them over the years, bringing them gratitude beyond belief.
This talk made me realize the importance of finding the positives in everyday life. Even though it seems like we have so little at times or that life is "tough", we have countless things to be thankful for. Finding the positives in everyday life can make us feel like the richest people in the world.
